Bloomsburg Baseball Falls at Builders Tournament
NEWPORT NEWS, VA--The Bloomsburg University baseball team dropped its final three games at the Builders Tournament in Newport News, VA on Saturday and Sunday.
On Saturday night the Huskies lost 10-0 to Kutztown. Bloomsburg managed just three hits in the game, one each from Matt Robinson (York/Red Lion), Keith Sacrarakis (Bethlehem/Liberty) and Chris Brown (Vestal, NY/Vestal). Kutztown scored five times in the bottom of the first and was never threatened in the game.
In Sunday's first game, the Huskies lost to Lock Haven 7-4. Bloomsburg jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first when Andy Bucher (Littlestown/Littlestown) singled to open the game and later scored on a passed ball. The Huskies made it 3-0 with a pair of runs in the second inning. Chris Brown scored on a error and Billy Manning had an RBI single in the frame.
Lock Haven, though, rallied with a run in the third and five in the fourth to go up 6-3. The Huskies made it 6-4 in the bottom of the fourth after Bucher doubled home Nick Lerch (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) with run. But, that would be as close as the Huskies would get the rest of the way.
In a rematch with Kutztown, the Huskies lost 12-2. Trailing 2-0 in the top of the fourth, the Huskies tied the score with a pair of runs. Chris Brown had an RBI on a groundout and Rob Watlock (Plains/Coughlin) scored on an error. Kutztown, though, would go on to score three in the fifth, five in the sixth and two more in the seventh to get the win.
Bloomsburg, 1-4, will be idle till starting its spring trip on March 11th.
